The Days of TiepoloIn Udine from 21 May to 31 OctoberFrom 21 May to 31 October 2010 you will be able to visit the Civic Museum at the Castle of Udine to see the exhibition Giambattista Tiepolo tra scherzo e capriccio. Disegni e incisioni “di spiritoso e saporitissimo gusto (Giambattista Tiepolo from playful to whimsical. Delightful and humorous drawings and sketches), from which you can admire the full range of the magnificent graphic art which was the work of the Venetian artist together with a select choice of his pictures, directly connected with the subject of the sketches. The exhibition is on of the many parts of the initiative Le Giornate di Tiepolo 2010 (The Days of Tiepolo 2010), a project created and managed by the Councillor for Culture of Udine, which will be running until the end of October, entailing programmes centred around Tiepolo, Baroque music concerts, the chance to go deeper into related historical and scientific themes. What really captivates us in these works of art is not just the technical skill, but what the artist has managed to capture; the secret meaning which underlies the very particular and studied pieces, and which is still out of reach to date. Without a doubt no depiction is random or offhand, and likewise the final message in these pieces is only obtainable through intellectual research by adepts. That is part of the attraction and the spell of these fleeting pieces: on the surface they seem to deal with simple subjects, anecdotes, fun, yet in actual fact, they are depictions with varying levels of complexity and interpretations. The etchings and pictures will also be accompanied by some original sheets, the stencils for the etchings, in order to clarify the whole process that was required for their completion. This is all presented as part of a programme aimed at taking us closer to the secrets of Tiepolo without making any assumptions of being able to understand him completely, and just relying on being able to count on the priceless emotions of admiration and fascination.
